Why Gearsmith

What Sets This Workshop Apart

A small workshop where every piece is handled personally — not passed along a chain of technicians.

Pre-Work Assessment

Before any work begins, a written assessment is shared with you. You decide whether to proceed, with no pressure either way.

Documented Records

Every service produces a written record of parts inspected, components replaced, and readings taken. Your copy to keep.

Preservation First

The aim is always to preserve the original character of a timepiece, not to make it look new at the expense of its history.

Clear Communication

Turnaround timelines and scope are discussed openly before the job starts. If something changes during the work, you hear about it first.

Mechanical & Quartz

Both movement types are serviced here — automatic, manual-wind, quartz, and complex multi-complication calibers from various eras.

Located in Phuket

Based on Thalang Road in Talat Yai, the workshop is easy to visit. Drop off your piece in person or arrange a consultation first.

Questions

Frequently Asked

A few things people often ask before bringing a watch in.

How do I know if my watch needs servicing?
A few signs worth noting: the watch is running noticeably fast or slow, the crown feels stiff or loose, the case is showing moisture inside the crystal, or it simply hasn't been serviced in five or more years. Mechanical movements generally benefit from periodic care to keep the lubricants working and the parts in good order. If you're unsure, bring the piece in for a look — the assessment is a separate conversation before any decision is made.
What is included in the routine service?
The routine service covers full disassembly of the movement, ultrasonic cleaning of individual components, application of fresh lubricants to the specified points, timing adjustment, and a gasket inspection. A written record summarising what was found and what was done is provided at collection. The price for this service is ฿3,910.
How long does a service typically take?
Routine servicing generally takes seven to fourteen days depending on the movement type and the workshop's current schedule. Case and dial work runs a similar timeline. Heritage and complication overhauls can take three to six weeks given the methodical nature of the process. Timelines are discussed at the point of assessment, and you'll be kept informed if anything extends the expected period.
Do you work on vintage or antique watches?
Yes — the Complication & Heritage Overhaul service is specifically suited to older calibers. Vintage pieces are treated with particular care; the aim is to preserve their original character rather than modernise their appearance. Where original parts are no longer available, that is discussed with the owner before any alternative is sourced or fitted.
Can I get a cost estimate before committing?
Yes — the assessment stage exists precisely for this. Once the piece has been examined, a written outline of the planned work and associated cost is shared with you. You are under no obligation to proceed at that point. If you wish to collect the watch without service, that is perfectly fine.
Is my watch safe while it is with you?
All pieces are kept in a secure, temperature-stable environment while in the workshop. Each item is logged individually on arrival and documented throughout the service process. The workshop handles a limited number of pieces at a time to ensure nothing is overlooked.
